I am a simple person!

I woke up this morning to a Facebook page filled with news of the general election and what the results mean for the country – it’s all great stuff and obviously very important but what made me smile and nod my head the most was a tongue in cheek piece about being a low maintenance girl.

Pony tail 1Now I wouldn’t necessarily class myself as low maintenance….until I read this and realised that I am definitely in this category. Number 5 on the list was ‘every day is no make up Monday’ – that’s me, because although I do have make up tucked away in the cupboard it only comes out on special occasions.

But the ones that really had me nodding were:

9. You either shake out your hair (on a good day)

10 Or you wear it in a ponytail (on a bad hair day)

11. Or you wear it in a bun (on a really bad hair day)

For those of you that don’t know me I have very straight hair which is fairly long and thusmessy bunrequires little maintenance which is why I can definitely identify with the statements above. It’s not that I’m lazy – in fact far from it – I just don’t spend a lot of time on my hair.

Some of you may now be a little bit horrified at my seeming lack of a hair car routine – and more to the point why am I writing this in a blog about our favourite hair salon Verso? Hold that thought.

The truth is that despite being able to tick most of the boxes which describe me as a low maintenance girl, there is perhaps a little lie in this because the only treason I have low maintenance hair is because I visit those nice people at Verso every month. If my hair wasn’t in such good condition and cut so well then I would certainly be wearing it in a bun more often (possibly every day). But I can shake my head with pride knowing that

generally speaking the results will get me thorough the day without people pointing and tutting!

Girl With Long Hair

So the moral of the story is that everyone can be low maintenance – you just need to seek help from the professionals to achieve this. For me I never underestimate the power of a good haircut and that’s why I have Verso on speed dial! So if you are thinking that perhaps it’s not so important to get a regular trim then think again (because people will start to point and tut – only joking). Oh and if anyone can provide instruction in the art of make up for a low maintenance girl then send them my way!

Easter eggs

Share and like or the Easter bunny won’t come!

I am one of those people that has two computer screens and a friend once jokingly asked: “Is that one for Twitter and one for Facebook?” Obviously that isn’t true (she protests loudly!) but it did get me thinking about how much time people spend on social networking sites and what they do with them.

Now I am what is now classed as ‘old’ so I do remember Friends Reunited and the frantic way we all logged on just so that we could be nosy and see what our old school chums were up to.

Things have moved on a bit since then – we are still nosy (obviously) but we want a bit more from life than to marvel at how well other people are doing.

Mostly we want to share our experiences – have you noticed how every time you buy something someone asks you to rate your experience. This is great but sometimes companies take it a bit too far – I mean how many things can you say when you buy some deodorant from Boots online – ummm it smells nice!!!

But for some companies it matters more than others – like us for example. We love the way that you comment about us because it does brighten up our day to know that you love the way your new hair looks.

So a big old thank you goes to Jenny Maine who commented: “Lovely salon, great atmosphere, great stylists and great experience. Highly recommended”. Another big shout out to Catiadavid Cowling for commenting: “Extremely professional and very friendly! :)” you have both earned yourselves a free treatment next time you visit us.

So that’s got your attention hasn’t it – free stuff, yes genuinely free stuff just for saying how much you like us. I’m afraid we can’t do that for everyone but every now and then we’re going to be giving things away – it might be a free cut and blowdry or something equally exciting but you have to comment to win.

So please comment – you know the drill – because we want to hear from you. And more importantly don’t forget to share and like ‘Verso Hair Salon and Academy’ – I am reliably informed that if we don’t get to 900 likes on our Facebook page by Easter then none of the Verso team will get any Easter eggs – and you don’t want that to happen do you!!!!!

Easter eggs

If you’re ‘appy and you know it

Well hello Verso friends, it’s good to be back and our sincere apologies for the break in our regular blog. But we are now back and we are here to stay and what’s more we have some very exciting news for you.

We have an app! Yes you read it right, we really do have a Verso app and it’s really quite fantastic (if we do say so ourselves). But what does it do I hear you ask?

IMG_0403

Well unfortunately it won’t automatically buy you chocolate –we are very sorry for that small oversight but if there is anyone out there who can develop an app that automatically buys chocolate when you need it most then do get in touch. But it does give you access to some amazing offers and our lovely new loyalty scheme.

IMG_0404

How many times have you been in a shop and they have asked for your loyalty card only for you to remember that you left it in your other bag? It’s an all too familiar story for me and the only sensible answer is to just have one bag – but that’s not really going to happen is it! Apart from anything else I would need a bag the size of a small house just to fit ‘everything’ in! But I do always have my phone on me and that’s why the Verso app is so great – because it’s on my phone so it’s always there.

So here I am in the salon, I whip out my phone and before you know it I’m well on my way to getting my reward. In fact you only need to visit Verso six times, scan via the app when you pay and you get 10% off any service.

For all you long serving Verso fans you may remember the customer referral scheme which offered rewards when you referred a friend. Well that’s even easier now it’s on the app as you get a unique code which you can share with friends and then all you have to do is look forward to 10% off in the future – no cards, no paperwork, you just need your phone.

IMG_0405

The app has also got all of our opening hours, contact details, price lists and some great pictures of some of our recent work, in fact it’s like having a member of the Verso team in the palm of your hand – except that would be a bit weird!

So don’t delay, get your app today (that even rhymes so it must be good!), just go to your app store and type in Verso Hair – you’ll see our beautiful logo so you know it’s the right one. It’s all ‘appening at Verso (sorry, I couldn’t resist).

Help – I look like a scarecrow

Crazy hairIf your hair is starting to feel the effects of the sun then don’t worry because here at Verso we know what you’re going through and we have some top tips to help you keep control of your hair and stay looking amazing throughout the summer months.

So let’s start with the basics – in the summer we all wash our hair more but this is one of the main contributors to damaged hair because even if you use the best products available it’s what you do once your hair is wet that makes a difference.

To protect your hair make sure that you never use a brush when it is wet – always use a wide toothed comb to avoid breaking your hair. It’s also a good idea to use a t-shirt to dry your hair. Yes you heard us right we did say a t-shirt because rubbing your hair with a towel can cause friction and lead to the dreaded frizz. If you use a cotton t-shirt then the excess water is absorbed without any friction.

Once your hair is beautiful and clean then try to let it dry naturally because it will thank you in the long term. But if you do need to use a hairdryer then don’t over-use it and if you want your style to last longer than blast your hair with the dryer on the cool setting once you are finished styling – the cool air will set your hair.

If you are looking for a bit of a style revamp but don’t want to keep washing and drying your hair then invest in some dry shampoo. This is one of those products which is great for a quick refresh and even if your hair is squeaky clean if you apply it at the roots it will give you a bit of extra volume which turns good hair into great hair.

And finally….if you’re suffering from static then run a tumble dryer sheet over your head to stop it from getting clingy. Yes it does sound a bit odd but it really does work we promise.

Hopefully these tips will help you to keep your hair in great shape and don’t forget to tell us if you have a special secret of your own – we’re always on the lookout for new tips to share with our clients.

And if all else fails then give us a ring – we might not be able to work miracles but we can get pretty close.Phone

Get into the holiday spirit

Summer is here and the team at Verso are all making the most of the sun – whilst dodging the occasional thunderstorm! But we won’t let the rain dampen our spirits and you shouldn’t either.

A lot of our clients are now happily counting down to their summer holidays but with the pleasure comes the pain because a couple of weeks of sun, sea and sand can play havoc with your hair if you don’t look after it properly. Obviously we will be more than happy to sort out the damage when you return with an enviable tan – but we can do better than that because here are some top tips to keep your hair in perfect condition and keep you looking great throughout the summer.

We all want to look our best and for some this means a daily dose of the hairdryer and straighteners. But in the summer months and especially when you are on holiday and your hair has to stand up to the elements a bit more than normal, this can contribute to dry and damaged hair. Our advice is to go natural and let your hair have a holiday too and what better compliment to a summer tan than a beautiful natural look. But if you are a slave to your hairdryer and straighteners then why not try a leave-in conditioner – it can work wonders on dry and brittle hair.

Getting a good cut is another crucial part of the holiday countdown – not only will this limit the amount of styling which you need but it will also keep your hair looking great.

It’s also a good idea to invest in some really good products as they will make a real difference to the health of your hair. We have a great range in the salon and we are always happy to offer advice on the best products for you….and don’t forget that we also have some fantastic sets which are perfect for your holidays so there’s no excuse for a bad hair day!Awapuhi wild ginger

And last but certainly not least…..wear a hat when it’s really hot – your hair needs to be protected just as much as your skin and it nothing else it will stop you from getting sun stroke.

So now there are no excuses for bad holiday hair and if you follow our top tips you will be the star of the beach.

Have a great holiday.

Share the love

It’s all fairly simple in our line of work – we cut hair.

Well ok it isn’t that simple because what we really do is make you look amazing and make share the lovesure that every person that leaves the salon is nothing short of delighted. In fact over the last few months we have been very busy making sure that each and every one of our clients feels a million dollars when they leave the salon and we think that’s quite an achievement.

One thing which we do have at Verso is a great team and therefore it doesn’t matter who you book an appointment with you can be certain that you will get the same great level of care and attention which we think everyone deserves.

Have I gone a bit over the top there! No of course not – you are all special and you all deserve special treatment – in fact if you ask Pasky nicely he might even sing for you next time you are in the salon! Anyway you get the picture and we promise not to make him sing for you – so what’s with all of the compliments all of a sudden. Well not that we don’t love you anyway but we would like a small favour………

And don’t forget to mention that you voted for us next time you are in the salon – we might even crack open the chocolate biscuits!

Move away from the chocolate!

Spring is most definitely in the air and here at Verso we have our fingers crossed that it is well and truly here to stay for the Easter weekend ahead.

Speaking of Easter what do you have planned? We are thinking that chocolate is definitely top of the list although to be honest I will be surprised if the team have any eggs left on Easter Sunday because we aren’t the most patient bunch.

Easter eggs

Having said that it seems to be a strong theme which runs through many of our clients who can’t wait to get stuck in to their Easter treats – there is just something about Easter egg chocolate that no-one can resist. Well apparently some people can resist it – but personally I find that very hard to believe.

So if you’re not having chocolate this weekend what will you be doing? We asked some of our clients what their perfect present would be and the unanimous decision was something to make them feel really special – and this is where we suggest a trip to your favourite hair salon – well what better way to make to feel special. The best bit is that we are open every day except Sunday and it only takes one phone call to be well on your way to feeling truly amazing.

Or perhaps you want to treat someone special – well we do have the prefect present because a Verso gift voucher shows just how much you care – and they are much easier to wrap up than an egg shaped gift.

Don’t forget that we are also the biggest stockist of Paul Mitchell products in Peterborough so why not take the opportunity to stock up on your favourite products in time to look your best over the bank holiday weekend.

Whatever you decide to do this Easter have a great time – we certainly will be!

You know you’ve made it when you have your own blog!

So this is Verso Hair’s very first blog and I hope you’re just as excited about it as we are. Ok so loads of people have blogs – it does seem to be the ‘in’ thing – but we hope that ours DSC_0746will be one that you will love.

It’s not every day that a hair salon starts ‘blogging’ after all our main line of business is obviously hair but it does give us the chance to let you know what we are up to.

So what’s been happening at Verso Hair? The simple answer is a lot but that probably isn’t a very helpful way to start because it covers so much.

If you’re not familiar with us then let me tell you a bit about where we came from because Verso Hair has been offering an award winning service at affordable prices since 1970 when it started out as Franks Hairdressers and was owned by Pasky and Rosanna’s father. In 2000 it was renamed Verso Hair and a brand new look and feel was introduced in keeping with the new millennium.

Verso Hair continues to go from strength to strength but it is still very much a family business and is now owned by Pasky and Rosanna, both of whom are Morris Masterclass London, British Hairdresser of the Year trained and twice British Champion Hairdressers. The salon also boasts a dedicated men’s specialist, Tony, who has over 30 years of experience.

Pasky, Rosanna and Tony are supported by a fast growing dynamic team who all have one thing in common – they are committed to making you look amazing because we like to think that we are not just cutting and colouring hair – it’s more of a transformation process.

You wouldn’t believe the amount of people that step through the door looking like the weight of the world is on their shoulders and it’s our job to change that. So when you think of Verso then think of us as your very own little ray of sunshine.DSC_0615

If you check out our Facebook page you will see what I mean because just last week our Senior Stylist Gemma and our Artistic Stylist Charly transformed one of our regular customers – suffice to say she was delighted with the results.

So if you’re having a bad hair day then don’t be alone – we are here to help. All it takes is a phone call and you’re well on your way to the new you – go on – you know you want to.
